Head of Chinmaya Mission
Swami Chinmayananda
“Gurudev” founder of
Chinmaya Mission
Swami Tejomayananda
Is the former Head of Chinmaya Mission Worldwide, a position he held since 1993 after Swami Chinmayananda attained Mahasamadhi.
Swami Swaroopananda
Present head of Chinmaya Mission World Wide
Our Founder
Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda was a great ascetic of
modern India, who worked ceaselessly for over four decades,
spreading the Vedantic message of peace and happiness to the
people of all classes around the globe.
th Balakrishnan Menon was born on 8 May 1916, at Ernakulam
Kerala. He was an inquisitive and intelligent child.
He acquired degrees in law & literature. But mere degrees did not
satisfy him. Sensitive to the freedom struggle of the country he
joined the Indian Independence Movement in 1942.
He became the Chief Reporter of the National Herald at Delhi. He
earned the reputation of being the "forceful and dynamic voice" of
all controversial issues like the British rule.
The radical journalist in him wanted to expose the "bluff of the
masters" and this sent him to Rishikesh to interview Swami
Shivananda. The meeting transformed him. The sceptic in Menon
dissolved & Swami Shivananda initiated him into the holy order of
sanyasa on 25 February, 1949. He was named Swami
Chinmayananda Saraswati one who revels in the bliss of Pure
Consciousness.
His austerity strengthened under the great Himalayan hermit,
Swami Tapovan Maharaj, known as the Glory of the Himalayas who
taught him the scriptures, discipline and a spiritual way of life.
Swami Tapovan Maharaj was a realist and wanted his disciple to
first know the world as it is, before making his final decision. So he
advised him to travel across India for a year, penniless and see the
real India.
After a year of travel, Swami Chinmayananda gave his first talk "Let
us be Hindus" at a Ganesha temple in Pune. Thus was born the
Chinmaya Movement in December 1951. From then onwards, he
became a globetrotter touching the hearts of millions, including
scholars at Harvard, M.I.T. and other accredited American and
European universities. Pujya Gurudev was not just a great person
but an institution in himself.
His name became synonymous with Bhagwad Gita and the
Upanishads. He initiated a revival of Indian culture and spirituality
at a time when it was most needed. He was chosen to be the
President of the centenary celebrations of the World Parliament of
Religions at Chicago. Just prior to that, he attained mahasamadhi at
rd San Diego, USAon 3 August 1993. "Swamiji was one of the greatest
spiritual teachers of modern India.
His legacy remains in the form of a global Organization - Chinmaya
Mission. He has authored 30 books and written commentaries on
various spiritual texts. Gurudev more than once declared that he
wished to bring "Hindus back to Hinduism". He believed that
Vedanta is the spiritual birth right of every human being.
The 96 Chinmaya Vidyalayas, an International Residential School,
and 6 Chinmaya Colleges and one university - Chinmaya
Vishwavidyapeeth offer education with a difference under
Chinmaya Mission. The difference in these institutions is the
Chinmaya Vision Programme (CVP) which complements academic
excellence with value based education.
Message
Dear Children
Hari Om ! Hari Om ! Hari Om !
Salutations !
This is not a school. This is an extension of the home of my children.
This is the true concept of Chinmaya Vidyalaya with minimum
children in each class, so that the teacher's responsibility becomes
double of each child's mother. The institution protects and provides
a warm atmosphere of love and affection in which the children grow
and are nurtured and nourished by the teacher mother. This is the
concept with which I started schools scattered all over India.
The parents have started recognising the unfolding of a sense of
duty in their children who are left in our care. I wish the parents
would participate a little more actively in the school, where their
children are trying to grow into their full stature.
I would like to see a little more encouragement in the Arts for our
children who learn to appreciate beauty in whatever form they see,
so that they grow to be fine sensitive human beings. I do not know
how you will accomplish it, but I have full faith that you will.
SWAMI CHINMAYANANDA

Outlook.

who can face the challenges of modern life with a smile and make a

(C.C.M.T.) Mumbai. The Vidyalaya is administered by the C.C.M.T.
through a committee under the local Chinmaya Mission Centre.

Guruji stepped down as Head of Chinmaya Mission Worldwide and
Swami Swaroopananda has now been bestowed by Swami
Tejomayananda the privilege to serve as the Head of Chinmaya
Mission Worldwide. As in the case of all other Chinmaya Vidyalayas
in the country, the educational and administrative aspects of our
Vidyalaya are supervised and guided by the Central Chinmaya
Mission Trust Education Cell [CCMTEC]
CVP
The Chinmaya Vision Programme (CVP) is what makes this school a
'school with a difference'. CVP was born to enshrine the philosophy
of education developed by pujya gurudev Swami
Chinmayananda in the heart of every growing child to bring out
the best in them for overall personality development of the child.
The child is the focal point of this programme. Apart from regular
academic curriculum, there is an emphasis on the moral and
cultural aspects. Teachers are regularly being sent for various
training programmes for orientation and development.
Chinmaya Vision Programme has four aspects -
1. Integrated Development : It aims at the overall unfoldment
and gentle blossoming of the child at the physical, mental,
intellectual and spiritual levels of his or her personality. It aims at
making the child an overall, emotionally balanced person. It implies
manifestation of his or her inherent intellectual capacities and
abilities to discover his or her inherent divinity and manifest it.
2. Indian Culture : Under this head the child is given a wide
exposure to the various aspects of our culture, cultural awareness
and appreciation of the versatality, artistic and scientific heritage of
India, explanations of customs and traditions and cultural
motivation through projects, hobbies etc.
3. Patriotism : It aims at creating dedicated and committed
citizens who take real pride in serving the nation. This vital area of
focus includes education in citizenship, civic consciousness,
fostering pride in being Indian and vital national concerns such as
unity in diversity.
4. Universal Outlook : The world needs to come back to a
universal holistic view of life. Universal outlook refers to an
appreciation, sensitivity and commitment to the universal issues. it
helps the child to view himself or herself as a responsible citizen of
the world, live in harmony with creation as well as become aware of
being an intrinsic part of the macrocosm.
CVP is Value Education and value based education, inculcating
values not only through stories and precepts, but learning values in
and through all academic subjects and co-curricular activities of the
Vidyalaya.
CVP augments the role of teachers, parents and the management in
this enabling endeavour. It aims at character moulding and
personality development of growing children, complementing
academic excellence. It is not an activity but a vision inducing
programme.
